4 welloneconnection w w w . h u r o n r e g i o n a l . o r g To help local women learn how to reduce their risk of heart disease, Huron Regional Medical Center presents its ninth annual Go Red … A Taste for Your Heart on Feb. 27, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the Campus Center in Huron. Wear Red for Your Heart Women of all ages are invited to wear their favorite red outfit and browse interactive health displays and health screenings, each with a different taste of delicious food prepared in a healthier way. Some of the tastes include: 40-calorie brownies, refrigerator maple oatmeal, chicken chili and banana oatmeal bars. Each participant will receive a book of the evening's recipes and will have a chance to win prizes to help them get and stay healthy. Kelly Steffen, DO, a visiting female cardiologist with Sanford Heart, will be the keynote presenter, discussing the gender-specific aspects of heart disease and tips that women can use to lead a healthier lifestyle. The evening will include a healthy cooking demonstration featuring Karl Blessinger, MD, pathologist and HRMC board chair. Some booths will feature the American Heart Association's Life's Simple 7™. These seven ways to prevent heart disease include physical activity, blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol control, weight loss, healthy eating and smoking cessation. Complimentary blood pressure readings and body fat composition tests will be available. Reduce Your Risk … Know Your Numbers Advanced heart, vascular and lung screenings by Sanford Health's mobile unit will be available from 12:30 – 7:30 p.m. for a fee, including: • The Heart Screen™ – CT scan, non-fasting cholesterol, blood pressure and BMI are used to uncover critical details about the health of your heart. • Vascular Screen – This screen uncovers critical details about the health of your vascular system to help protect against stroke. • Lung Cancer Screen – For former and current smokers age 50 to 74, this screen aims to find lung cancer early, when treatments are most effective. 4 welloneconnection A Night Out for Heart Health Think heart disease is just a man's problem?
