In May 2011, Chris and Amy Skaggs were blessed with the arrival of twins, daughter Leighton Sophie Taylor and son Jaxon Cohen. Born prematurely and in fragile health, the Skaggs twins received extra medical attention in the Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano. Both babies were doing well, when Leighton's health suddenly began to decline. Tragically, Leighton passed away at three weeks of age. For the Skaggs family, one of the most heartbreaking aspects of their loss was that no one else ever got to meet Leighton and enjoy her spunky personality. To honor Leighton's memory and help other parents of preemies bond with their newborns, the Skaggs created Leighton's Gift, a fund used to install "Peek-a-Boo" webcams over NICU beds. The webcams allow parents to watch over and speak to their babies from a computer, smartphone or tablet, and parents also can securely share the intimate view with siblings, friends and family. Thanks to the Skaggs family's generosity, 10 webcams have already been installed, but this is just the fi rst milestone. Now, your gift is needed to help the Skaggs family reach its goal of installing webcams over every Texas Health Plano NICU bed. To donate, contact Doug Anderson at Texas Health Resources Foundation at 972-981-8387 or DougAnderson@TexasHealth.org. To learn more about Leighton's Gift, visit www.LeightonsGift.com.
