The transformation of the Children's Hospital of San Antonio has reached the internal phase of construction. Over the next few months, larger, all-new patient rooms are being built to better accommodate the needs of patients and their families, and the Emergency Department will be expanded to three times its current size. "Our new, transformed Emergency Department will open in October," says Trisha Montague, chief nursing officer at the Children's Hospital of San Antonio. "It will feature state-of-the-art technology and private exam rooms. Meanwhile, we are still seeing patients in our current Emergency Department." The new inpatient rooms, being built in closed sections of the Hospital away from where current patients are being treated, are also expected to be ready in the fall. "The patient rooms will feature built-in sofa sleepers and a built-in desk/work area for parents and other family members," Trisha says. "In addition, each patient care unit will have separate Family Support Centers with small kitchenettes, laundry facilities, and a lounging area that will allow for respite or quiet time when needed." WORLD-CLASS EXPERTISE Every aspect of the Children's Hospital of San Antonio is being transformed, including the staff. We are expanding our team of providers with specialists from Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital to strengthen the level of subspecialty care available here in South-Central Texas. We also have a dedicated team of private practice physicians throughout the community, committed to providing the highest level of care to the children of our city and beyond. "It is our mission to serve all children and families," Trisha says. "These changes ensure our 145-year CHRISTUS Santa Rosa tradition will continue for years to come." lounging area that will allow for respite or quiet time when needed." 3
