CT Technologist Judi Shaffer helps patients relax by explaining imaging studies and answering any questions they might have. A Clear View Whether you broke a bone in a Little League game or received a mammogram on your 50th birthday, you may be accustomed to getting imaging tests throughout all stages of your life. Helping Heal Hearts South Jersey Healthcare Imaging Services carries accreditation by the American College of Radiology (ACR) in a variety of modalities, including: • computed tomography (CT) • magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) • mammography • nuclear medicine • positron emission tomography (PET) • ultrasound As an ACR-accredited department, the health system’s Imaging Services collaborates with the cardiopulmonary team to perform cardiac stress testing and echocardiograms for heart patients. At SJH Regional Medical Center Imaging, physicians with the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory perform procedures for patients requiring this lifesaving intervention. Finding and Fighting Cancer “All of our oncology imaging services are designed to help our referring physicians diagnose and treat cancer,” said Mario Sergi Jr., R.T., director of Radiation Oncology and Radiology Services at SJH. “We use both MRI and CT to offer the full scope of imaging capabilities to patients in the community.” One of SJH’s most recent advances is the PET/CT scanner, a device that combines the capabilities of CT with a nuclear medicine camera. The unit helps pinpoint cancerous cells and processes in a person’s entire body, providing not only the location of the disease, but also the extent of its growth. Safer Surgeries For many patients preparing to undergo surgery, surgeons use CT and MRI scans to map disease processes or injuries throughout the body. Ultrasound imaging can defi ne the operation area, and nuclear medicine capabilities, such as sentinel node examinations, can locate the lymph nodes aff ected by cancer. “Using state-of-the-art technology, our highly trained radiologists and staff work together as colleagues to interpret imaging results and bring patients the very best in care,” Sergi said. “We have served our community for more than 100 years while providing excellence and remaining on the leading edge of imaging.” Women’s Health Women require focused services as they age. SJH provides these services, many of which are performed by female physicians board certifi ed in these specialties, including: • breast MRI • digital mammography • dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry bone density scanning • sentinel node scanning • ultrasound The health system includes four locations Click here to learn more. offering digital mammography, meaning preventive screenings can easily fit into almost any woman’s schedule. State-of-the-art digital mammography units provide a clear picture of the interior of the breast; this precise technology helps radiologists examine minute areas invisible with less advanced imaging techniques. For women with dense breast tissue who may require more extensive imaging, MRI allows radiologists to overcome this obstacle for accurate results.
