Spotlight on Women’s and Children’s HEALTH At work and home, women fulfi ll many roles and The Road to Wellness Centers of medical excellence foster a keen ability to address the physical and emotional needs of all patients. At all levels of care, these centers must maintain a high degree of individual attention to and care for a vast range of patient needs. As their lives get busier, it becomes easier to put personal health on the backburner. For women throughout Salem, Gloucester and Cumberland counties, however, close proximity to SJH’s comprehensive women’s health services means more convenient access to care and less travel. SJH Women’s and Children’s Services provide care for all aspects of health including cancer diagnosis, lymphedema management, urinary incontinence, fi tness, heart health and childbirth. Within each facet of women’s health, SJH is fully prepared to help patients manage the physical and emotional eff ects of health events. “Serious and joyful health experiences both have the potential for powerful ramifi cations on the physical and mental health of female patients,” explained Debbie Franceschini, P.T., director of SJH RehabCare Services. “From fear and uncertainty surrounding cancer treatment to urinary incontinence issues, it is SJH’s responsibility as a health care provider to address these patient needs compassionately.” Leading-Edge ONCOLOGY CARE A cancer diagnosis is nothing short of life changing. However, the fi rst step on the path of treatment and recovery is diagnosis. In the battle against this disease, the combination of technologically advanced therapies and patient support becomes invaluable. Recognized by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer and a Fox Chase Cancer Center Partner, the SJH Frank and Edith Scarpa Regional Cancer Pavilion off ers services to patients to give them the upper hand when it comes to treating the disease. Supported by a multidisciplinary team of cancer specialists, cancer services at SJH account for each patient’s individual needs and concerns. For physical cancer treatment and recovery, SJH provides tailored chemotherapy, radiation therapy and surgical options used together to achieve ideal patient outcomes. Following treatment, SJH RehabCare Services off er physical and occupational therapy including lymphedema management, as well as general strengthening exercise programs to improve a patient’s overall functional mobility and quality of life. Following recovery, SJH counseling services can help patients adjust to and embrace life as cancer survivors. If desired, the next step could be a transition to the SJH Fitness Connection or the physician-referred exercise program. SJH Family & Friends
