"METABOLIC SYNDROME REFERS to a group of risk factors that may increase the risk for heart disease and other health problems such as diabetes and stroke," says Kelly Lauscher, Community Education Facilitator at Sacred Heart Hospital. "This series will focus on how we can reduce those risk factors by taking better care of our bodies." The Metabolic Syndrome Series, made up of two sessions presented by Sacred Heart Hospital and St. Joseph's Hospital, will be held at the 29 Pines Sleep Inn & Suites Conference Center in Eau Claire from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Admission is free. • 3D Community Health: Body Mind Spirit Connection Wednesday, October 29 Three mini-presentations will inspire and motivate you for positive change. Body: Georgia Smith, Sacred Heart Regional Cancer Center Director, The Cancer Connection; Mind: James Reimer, The Motivating Movement Connection; Spirit: The Creative Connection. • Make It a Lifestyle Habit—Take Back Your Health! Wednesday, November 12 Join Tasha Schuh, Ms. Wheelchair USA, to learn effective ways to gain control over your body and improve your outlook on life, regardless of physical ability. "OUR MISSION TO serve the sick through our high- quality Franciscan healthcare ministry has thrived since the hospital was founded on October 7, 1889," says Becky Swanson, Division Marketing Director at Sacred Heart. "We want everyone to help us celebrate." Upcoming activities for the community include: • Anniversary Art Contest—Swing by Sacred Heart to pick up a 12"x12" canvas to decorate for the 125th anniversary art contest. The theme is the prayer of St. Francis of Assisi, which celebrates light, joy, hope, and faith, and the contest is open to all ages. • Blessing of the Animals—Bring your pets to the October 5 blessing in honor of St. Francis of Assisi's love of animals. • Burying of the Time Capsule—October 6 will play host to a variety of activities for Sacred Heart physicians and staff members, including a ceremony to place mementos underground for future generations. • Hope Gala—Join us for a great party! The gala will be held October 4 at the Davies Center on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
