"I never felt rested when I woke up," says Kolor, who sought help at the Health
Quest Center for Sleep Medicine in Fishkill. "After some tests, they found I had
sleep apnea. Now I feel better, and it's thanks to their help."
Kolor was given a continuous positive airway pressure, or CPAP, machine to help
him breathe during sleep. People with sleep apnea experience interruptions in
breathing and therefore have fragmented or poor-quality sleep.
"Sleep is often viewed as optional or a luxury," says Dr. Mohammed Aziz, board-
certified sleep medicine physician at Vassar Brothers Center for Sleep Medicine.
"But sleep disorders and disturbances can have significant health implications."
Left untreated, sleep apnea could lead to high blood pressure, depression, obesity
and other serious health conditions.
