IN THE NEWS 3 People IN THE NEWS DONNA MARSCHALL, PHD, Director, HIV Services Mental Health Program at Children's National, was appointed by Mayor Vincent C. Gray to the Washington Metropolitan Regional Ryan White Planning Council. The Planning Council is federally legislated to establish priorities for the allocation of funds to best meet the needs of individuals across four jurisdictions (Washington, DC, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia) living with HIV. BRIAN JACOBS, MD, Vice President, Chief Information Officer, and Chief Medical Information Officer at Children's National, was recognized by Health Data Management as CIO Visionary. While serving dual roles for Children's National, Dr. Jacobs expanded electronic health record (EHR) technology across inpatient departments, ambulatory clinics, and regional data exchange, including 240 independent physicians, as well as advocated the use of geographic information systems (GIS). Most recently, Dr. Jacobs merged standard EHR data with GIS so ware, which integrates health data and geospatial coordinates to gather insight into childhood obesity and offer potential interventions. | | | N E W S N O T E S | NEW WALGREENS PHARMACY OPENS AT CHILDREN'S NATIONAL HEALTH SYSTEM The new Walgreens pharmacy at Children's National will provide convenient access to pharmacy and other health and wellness services for patients and their families, helping expedite the discharge process. The pharmacy enables patients to fill prescriptions on-site before leaving the hospital and also will offer medication consultations, a wide range of immunizations, and other daily living items and consumables. Walgreens is located in the Sheikh Zayed Campus for Advanced Children's Medicine in Washington, DC. 7 EAST MEDICAL CARE UNIT TEAM WINS BEACON AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE The 7 East Medical Care Unit at Children's National received the Beacon Award for Excellence from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses for promoting exceptional patient care, coordination, efficiency, and a healthy work environment. A 50-bed acute care unit, 7 East includes more than 100 registered nurses among a staff of 160 who provide multidisciplinary care to acute and chronically ill patients. The unit is managed by medical teams, primarily resident-staffed care squads, with a focus on a wide variety of patient medical needs, including cystic fibrosis, diabetes, metabolic disorders, asthma, and other medical disorders. 202-476-4880 The Referring Physician Access Line offers timely access to Children's National Health System specialists for questions regarding consultations, referrals, and inpatient reports. Full-time specially trained staff will answer calls, ensuring a quicker response for you and your patient directly from a Children's National specialist. The Referring Physician Access Line is part of Children's National's plan to improve access and communication with our community physicians. We've reestablished a standardized process and hired full-time employees solely responsible for receiving calls from referring physicians so we can efficiently manage your urgent consult and appointment requests.
