Dear Friends and Neighbors, I am pleased to announce that CHRISTUS Spohn Health System is moving ahead to transform healthcare for the people of the Coastal Bend. Our plan, which includes replacing CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi–Memorial with a state-of-the-art Family Health Center, was approved by both the Nueces County Commissioners Court and the Nueces County Hospital District. We spent significant time and resources developing this plan and presenting it at six community education forums. Completion of our transformation will occur over the next five years. This includes replacing CHRISTUS Spohn Memorial with the approximately 40,000-square-foot Dr. Hector P. Garcia Memorial Family Health Center. The Center will provide a medical home for our communities and will allow for more appropriate access to primary care level services. The clinic will also serve as a center for wellness and preventive medicine. The many services of the Dr. Hector P. Garcia Memorial Family Health Center will be available to the community on a greatly expanded schedule, seven days a week. Our goal is to provide the right care at the right time and right place to help people stay out of the hospital.
