10 chofsa.org On September 30, prominent mommy bloggers from all over San Antonio, Texas, attended a special luncheon to learn about developments at the Children's Hospital of San Antonio. We shared our latest construction update, toured new patient floors, and talked about how these efforts would positively impact health care for the children of San Antonio and beyond. The mommy bloggers also had a chance to meet the energetic Elias J. Neujahr, newly appointed President of the Children's Hospital of San Antonio. Mr. Neujahr shared his background in pediatric health care systems as well as his vision for the future. Welcoming Local Bloggers To view the new patient floors and receive the latest construction updates, scan the QR code. For the past two years, our architectural, design, and construction teams have been working tirelessly to transform the Children's Hospital of San Antonio into a world-class facility. The updated eighth floor is home to the inpatient unit of the Cancer and Blood Disorders Center, where two rooms serving as positive pressure isolation rooms prevent the entrance of contagions. The special medicine unit and the inpatient unit of the Physical Rehabilitation Center are located on the revamped ninth floor. The rooms in these units are furnished with state-of-the-art rehabilitation equipment, including patient lift devices and tracking systems that provide assistance to patients with limited mobility. Two of the rooms convert into a single, larger room for sibling patients who wish to stay together. Each floor features a specific color that has been integrated into various design elements throughout that space. These vibrant, modern colors create a distinct, child-friendly atmosphere and make it easier for families to find their way around. Contemporary LED lighting and double-insulated windows not only brighten the spaces, but increase the Hospital's energy efficiency. Colored-glass panels with LED backlights will be installed in early 2015. GREAT FOR FAMILIES, IDEAL FOR STAFF Every space on the new floors has been engineered to satisfy the needs of both those giving care and those receiving it. Spiral-shaped walls around the new, centralized welcome stations provide a fashionable yet functional working space for nurses. Nursing station alcoves can be found in each corridor, further enhancing caregivers' ability to monitor children and provide support for families. A team room allows physicians and nurses to come together for care team discussions, conferences with family members, and resident training opportunities. The family lounges offer a comfortable, home-like setting and are equipped with a washer, dryer, and kitchen, and a playroom on each floor provides a space for children to enjoy play time, an essential part of the healing process. Each floor is composed of 20 new, private patient rooms. These beautifully modeled spaces are designed to optimize our family-centered care approach, with features that enhance comfort and livability for both patients and their families. Features of each patient room include: • Non-slip vinyl and wood flooring • Footwall with built-in magnetic marking boards for care information • Child-friendly wall talker with clip to accommodate children's activities and display art • Built-in sink, countertop, and desk • Electronic charting stations • Flat-screen TV and DVD player • Sitting area that converts to a day bed • VISTAMATIC ® privacy windows • Full-service bathroom with shower • Spacious storage cabinets in the main room and bathroom The Children's Hospital of San Antonio is excited to celebrate a new step in its transformation. Welcome to the completely redesigned eighth and ninth floors. Reaching New Levels
