SPRING IS A time for new beginnings, and this spring, we're excited to announce a new beginning for cancer services at King's Daughters' Health: the opening of our brand new Cancer Treatment Center. Having a state-of-the-art treatment center here in Madison means cancer patients won't have to endure the physical stress and financial burden of traveling for hours to receive care, which is something no one coping with a cancer diagnosis should have to deal with. We've made advanced therapies a high priority, purchasing a new linear accelerator that allows us to deliver precise, targeted radiation therapy that destroys tumors while protecting healthy tissue. Our new center continues to provide the same top-notch chemotherapy services we provided at our former location, and our ongoing affiliation with the Norton Cancer Institute in Louisville still provides patients with access to clinical trials taking place at a major research institution. Prevention is another top priority at our new center. We've launched a lung cancer screening program with equipment designed to detect cancers early and inexpensively, and we hired Ibrahim Adamu, MD, a physician who is fellowship-trained in colorectal surgery. Lung and colorectal cancers are two of the most common cancers in the United States, and we hope that these efforts Carol Dozier, CEO Dear Friends and Neighbors, will lead to fewer patients ever needing our treatment services in the first place. Of course, our cancer center is more than just a building. Our experienced, caring oncologists, therapists and nurses make the biggest impact on our patients every day, and thanks to them, our hospital is able to offer metropolitan-level healthcare with the humanity and compassion you can find only at community hospitals like ours. We owe a great debt of gratitude to everyone who made the center possible, from our committed staff to the individuals, community groups and local businesses who contributed funds to the Hope and Healing Campaign. Cancer affects all of us, and their generosity has helped make this a cancer center for the entire community. Wishing you wellness, Carol Dozier President and CEO, King's Daughters' Health ON THE COVER: Radiation therapists Danielle Simon, RT(R)(T), and Brittany Stewart, RT(R)(T) The mission of King's Daughters' Health is to improve the health of our patients through care, service and education.
