Stronger Together 2015 is part of Duke Medicine's Women's Health and Advocacy Initiative, a program dedicated to enhancing access to and raising awareness about women's health issues. "Many women find midlife health concerns difficult to discuss with their healthcare providers," says Kathy Kastan, LCSW, MAEd, director of the Women's Health and Advocacy Initiative. "But that doesn't make them any less important. Our goal is to shine a light on these issues, help people realize that they aren't alone and increase awareness about possible solutions. Life doesn't end at midlife." ONE DAY, TWO PROGRAMS To help start the conversation about the medical matters that impact women's lives, two Stronger Together 2015 educational events will be held April 11 at the Hilton North Raleigh/Midtown on Wake Forest Road. Members of the public can attend the community engagement event, "Midlife Matters: Menopause, Sexuality and Women's Health," which will include educational programs, breakout sessions with health professionals, free health screenings, vendor booths, raffles, entertainment from Duke's longtime a cappella group Rhythm and Blue, and a presentation from best-selling author Iris Krasnow about her book, Sex After …. A continuing education program for medical professionals will take place at the same time, featuring presentations about women-specific medical research and health concerns. The two groups will come together for a luncheon, keynote address and question-and-answer session with Krasnow. "This is a fabulous opportunity for providers and the community to mingle," Kastan says. "We have a lot to learn from each other." Get Engaged in Your Well-being Reserve your spot at "Midlife Matters: Menopause, Sexuality and Women's Health." Space is limited and the event is expected to sell out. Cost to attend is $35.
