WHETHER YOUR BUCKET list is abstract or made up of actual tasks you'd like to accomplish, today might just be the perfect time to start tackling those "someday" goals. Need a push? Here are a few ways to get started: Take instrument or voice lessons. Learning to play a musical instrument will keep your mind and body sharp—and could fulfill a long- time wish. Look for an inexpensive or used instrument, and invest in six weeks of lessons to pick up the basics. Go somewhere new. You don't need a passport to get the benefits of travel. Pick a city, state, national park, or an attraction you have always wanted to see. Set a savings goal to pay for your trip, and urge friends or family to join you for a vacation that will bring fond memories for years to come. Take a little detour every day. Your bucket list may be filled with grand plans, but fulfilling small ones more often is also fun. Think outside your normal routine. Making time for something you haven't done before—a different sport, an alternate route to work, that antique store that caught your eye—can keep you excited and energized about life. Going After Goals Whether you decide to change careers or hike the Appalachian Trail, you can set yourself up for success by following these tips: • Divide and conquer! Breaking your big goal into a series of smaller steps can be a powerful motivator, especially if you plug the highlights into a timeline and track your progress. • Get help. Wise counsel from friends, experts on the subject, and objective third parties can help you on the road to success. When you share your plan with others, ask them to follow up with you later to see how you're doing. • Carry on. Learn from your mistakes and don't let circumstances beyond your control discourage you. Read biographies of successful people for inspiration. Setbacks may delay you, but only you can end your dream. Don't give up! SETTING GOALS AND PURSUING YOUR DREAMS CAN HELP YOU FIND ADVENTURES, BOTH BIG AND SMALL.
