Celebrating a Decade of Giving Over the past decade, the HAVE IT YOUR WAY® Foundation
has helped make dreams of higher education come true for students across the country.
IN THE 10 YEARS since its founding, the BURGER KING® Scholars Program has funded more than $14 million in scholarships for high school students across the country, and, in 2010 alone, the program awarded $1.2 million in scholarship money.
A RECIPIENT'S STORY —10 YEARS LATER As a high school senior in Detroit, Michigan, Michael Fox, Jr. wanted to find a way to pay for his college education without assuming a large amount of debt. Like many other teens in his position, he set out looking for scholarship opportunities. Before long, the financial aid Fox sought would be well within reach.
"In the first year of the program, applicants were nominated by their schools," explains Fox. "After I was nominated by my high school, I applied for the scholarship and was named among the first recipients of the BURGER KING® Scholars Program."
With the help of his financial award, Fox went on to attend Adrian College in his hometown, where he completed his bachelor's degree in political science with a minor in communications in 2004. Fox then went on to earn his master's degree in organizational leadership from Siena Heights University in 2009.
Today, applying the skills he learned and mastered in school, Fox serves as the coordinator of student services and assistant director of theTRIO: Upward Bound program at Siena Heights University. As he continues along his career path by serving 50 low-income and/or first-generation (neither parent holds a bachelor's degree) college-bound students at Adrian High School on their quest to graduate from high school and then graduate from four-year institutions of higher learning, Fox attributes much of his success to the BURGER KING® Scholars Program.

"Thanks to the scholarship program, I didn't have to worry about
the financial burden of my education," Fox says. "Instead, I could focus my energy on performing well academically."
