FRANCIS NURSE RECEIVES NATIONAL ACCLAIM Andi Foley, RN, clinical nurse specialist in the Emergency Services department at St. Francis Hospital, has been named the national 2015 Nurse Educator of the Year by the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA).The award recognizes a nurse who has made signicant contributions to the education of colleagues, students, EMS personnel, patients and/or the community through publication of articles, formal and informal courses or the development of emergency nursing programs. From Andi's nomination: "In her role as clinical nurse specialist/unit-based educator, she develops innovative and excellent curriculum for her unit and freely shares with the other hospitals in our system. She tirelessly researches and works to adapt our system's practices to match current evidence and to reect what is in the best interest of the patients and their families. She regularly contributes articles and editing to the Journal of Emergency Nursing. She has also presented at several conferences, including an international emergency nurses conference." TRANSITIONAL CLINIC EXPANDS TO ST. FRANCIS CHI Franciscan's Transitional Clinic, which started four years ago, helps patients transition from hospital care to home with the goal of helping patients establish a relationship with a doctor in their community for ongoing care. The clinic now oers follow-up appointments at St. Francis Hospital, as well as Tacoma, Lakewood and Gig Harbor for patients who do not have a doctor and are at a greater risk of not being able to get needed follow-up care. Clinic Manager Trish Miskimens reports, "After 30 years in health care, this is one of the most rewarding clinics I've been involved in.It makes an amazing dierence in the lives of the people we serve." The clinic has been seeing nearly 200 patient visits per month and Trish expects that number to climb even higher. The Transitional Clinic is supported by a grant from Catholic Health Initiatives.
