When the pediatric hematology/oncology specialists from The University of Texas
Health Science Center at San Antonio moved their practice to University Hospital
last year, the hospital had just gone through a major redesign and renovation. But the
opportunity to become the new home to a nationally recognized academic research
and treatment program for children with cancer and blood disorders prompted
University Health System leaders to go back to the drawing board and create inpatient
and outpatient space for the new South Texas Pediatric Blood & Cancer Center.
