President's Message… CentraState Healthcare System is firmly dedicated to treating pediatric patients with the utmost quality of care. Having a child suffer an injury or serious illness can be a frightening scenario for any parent, but CentraState is well-equipped to treat our young patients while putting their parents' minds at ease. Whether it's an unexpected visit to the Emergency Department (ED) or an overnight stay in the pediatric unit, parents want to know their child's care is in the best of hands. At CentraState, we offer 24-hour pediatric physician coverage in both our inpatient pediatric unit and ED. Our ED, open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, is state of the art, so your children are treated with some of the most advanced medical technology available. In the Star and Barry Tobias Emergency Pediatric Care area, we offer five private treatment rooms with child-friendly themes and accommodations so your child feels more comfortable. Moreover, whether it is a child or an adult coming through CentraState's Emergency Department, we guarantee that outpatients will be seen by a nurse within 15 minutes of arrival and examined by a physician or nurse practitioner within 30 minutes. For children who need rehabilitative care, CentraState has expanded its Pediatric Physical Therapy program. From infants to adolescents, our rehabilitation program offers highly skilled and committed therapists who place patients on the path to wellness, whether they have been physically impaired by an illness, degenerative condition, accident, sports-related injury, or any other type of harmful incident. Parents can rest assured that whatever their child's medical needs, CentraState's physicians, nurses, and staff will provide the most comprehensive and compassionate care possible. Yours in Good Health, John T. Gribbin, FACHE President and CEO Community Voices… Dear Mr. Gribbin, On Jan. 7, 2010, I was 32 weeks pregnant when I found out I had HELLP (Hemolysis, Elevated Liver enzymes, Low Platelet count) Syndrome. My platelets were depleting, my kidneys were shutting down, and I was slowly dying. I was told that I had to deliver. I spent eight days in the hospital after my C-section, but my son, Derek, spent 34. The nurses who took care of me in Intensive Care were excellent, and the maternity ward nurses and staff were as well. What I really want you to know is how wonderful the staff of the Special Care Nursery is. I spent hours in the Special Care Nursery each day until Derek came home and learned so much from the nurses there. Although Marissa and Carol were my favorite nurses there because of all they did for Derek, my husband and I, all the rest of the nurses were very calming and professional. That was the most difficult time of my life and I couldn't ask for a better group of professionals—and Derek's angels—on the Special Care Nursery nursing staff. I don't really know how to thank the people who saved our family, but I do hope they know how special they will always be to our family. Kind regards, Jill Hulse Healthy Directions is produced by CentraState Healthcare System, Freehold, New Jersey. May/June 2012 Editorial Advisors William J.
