DEAR PHYSICIANS: It takes a village to raise a healthy child, and we are honored to announce that ourvillage is stronger than ever. On April5,2016, we ocially changed our name to Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital. This is a significant moment in our 90-year history and, at the same time, a natural progression that was long in the making. In 2011, All Children's Hospital and Johns Hopkins Medicine began working collaboratively, pursuing new ways for our hospital to help and heal by leveraging our clinical and pediatric specialty strengths with Johns Hopkins' expertise in research and medical education. Over the past five years, we have expanded and enhanced our shared mission by opening four new specialized institutes: the Johns Hopkins All Children's Heart Institute, the Johns Hopkins All Children's Cancer & Blood Disorders Institute, the Johns Hopkins All Children's Institute for Brain Protection Sciences, and the Johns Hopkins All Children's Maternal, Fetal & Neonatal Institute, all of which are covered in the pages that follow. Another crucial piece of this journey has been our academic transformation and our evolution into a physician-led organization where decisions are made by those who care for our children. We launched an innovative pediatric residency program that provides early opportunities for research and mentorship with physician leaders, and we continue to add fellowship programs. We built a research infrastructure with the latest technologies to identify biomarkers and genes that contribute to pediatric disease and to help develop new, precise approaches to treatment and prevention. These initiatives support our departments of surgery and pediatric medicine as well as the four institutes. They ensure a cross-pollination of knowledge and ideas as we provide safe, high-quality care while working to further improve outcomes and discover new treatments and cures. Our name is new yet our goal remains the same: to provide outstanding care and healthier futures for all children. We are pleased to be able to provide your patients innovative family- centered care, state-of-the-art medical and surgical care and access to the latest therapies and clinical trials. Thank you for beinga part of our village. Sincerely, Jonathan M. Ellen, M.D. President, CEO and Physician-in-Chief Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital Vice Dean and Professor of Pediatrics Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine Summer 2016 3 President's Letter
