Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital became the new name of the hospital during a historic event with community and hospital leaders on April 5, 2016. WE WERE founded in 1926 as the American Legion Hospital for Crippled Children to care for children with polio and other debilitating disorders, without regard for race, creed or ability to pay. We have continued to grow for nine decades thanks to ongoing community support, dedicated employees and visionary leaders. Our commitment to children's health gained a new focus after the development of the polio vaccine. In 1967, we re-opened as All Children's Hospital, dedicated to meeting a wide range of medical needs of infants, children and teens. Our name was inspired by a line from 20th century poet Carl Sandburg: "ere is one child in all the world, and that child's name is all children." Over the next few decades we continued to enhance our ability to care for the region's most critically ill children, adding dozens of pediatric subspecialties, providing a wide range of developmental and rehabilitative services, and expanding our mission to serve patients through treatment, education, research and advocacy. When we moved into a state-of-the-art new facility in January 2010, the discussions that led to our formally joining Johns Hopkins Medicine were well under way. In April 2011 we became a fully integrated member of the Johns Hopkins Health System. is year marks the fifth anniversary of this successful integration. During this time, we have forged a new path that unites our 90-year tradition of clinical excellence with innovation in care, discovery and education, always keeping the patient and family at the center of care. is transformation defines us as a leader in children's health care. We provide genuine care, offer the latest treatments and research new cures—always working to make care safer and cures achievable. Now we can expand our world-class programs and lead collaborative care across the state of Florida. Now we can continue to recruit world-class physicians, nurses, researchers and scientists whose creative thinking will lead to advancements in care. Now we are Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital, improving the health of children in our region and around the world. Tradition and Transformation Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital is the new name for one of the region's oldest community treasures. Our name remains our mission: to care for all children.
