Find Your CHI FRANCISCAN HEALTH /// chifranciscan.org 2 Could It Be CONCUSSION? Because concussion symptoms can take anywhere from mere hours to several weeks to develop after the initial blow, it's important to know how to recognize symptoms. Signs you or a family or team member may have a concussion: • Blurred vision • Difficulty with memory or concentration, including loss of memory of the event that caused the concussion • Head or neck aches • Irritability or unexplained feelings of sadness • Mental fogginess • Nausea and dizziness • Sensitivity to light or sound Not recognizing a concussion and treating it properly can lead to worsened symptoms and long-term neurological issues, so stay vigilant after any kind of blow to the head. Athletes should not return to play until they are symptom-free for 24 hours and have physician consent. For an acute head injury accompanied by vomiting or sleepiness, go to your nearest emergency department. Sports physical season is a great time to learn more about the signs of concussion.
