SIGNING UP TO BE A VOLUNTEER ALLOWS YOU TO LEARN SKILLS, MAKE FRIENDS, TAKE OWNERSHIP IN YOUR COMMUNITY, AND BECOME A HAPPIER PERSON. "THERE IS NO such thing as a healthy community without volunteer involvement," says Mary Pengra, 16-year veteran Director of Volunteer Services at HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital. "Our volunteers donate 45,000 hours annually as goodwill ambassadors of our hospital." Those hours aren't only spent offering up smiles, though Pengra believes volunteers are the "warm and fuzzy" face of the facility. Volunteers complete purposeful work, like retail support in the gift shop, clerical tasks in various departments, and hosts for patient visitors. "Volunteers create joy in the hospital, and that's what patients need," says Brandy Sikora, Director of Volunteer Services for HSHS St. Joseph's Hospital. "They teach me how to be a better leader and remind me how to have fun. Many of our volunteers are retired colleagues who come to serve their community yet again—it's inspiring." While Sacred Heart has more than 320 volunteers, and St. Joseph's has 150 hospital volunteers and 220 Partners, there's still room for you in either facility. If you are 16 years old or older and want to give back, come and see what we are about. It's a guaranteed rewarding time. Making the VOLUNTEER DIFFERENCE Volunteering is a fulfilling commitment. Step in and serve. Call 715.717.7439 to reach Brandy Sikora at HSHS St. Joseph's and 715.717.4074 to reach Mary Pengra at HSHS Sacred Heart. 2 I N S P I R I N G H E A LT H
