A Simple Way to Make Change Trained to Teach Two leaders at CHI Friendship took advantage of interviewing and training programs from The Council on Quality and Leadership (CQL). For 40 years, CQL has helped organizations dene, measure, and improve quality of life and services for human service organizations. As a recipient of CQL's Person-Centered Excellence Accreditation, CHI Friendship has wholeheartedly adopted CQL's approach to quality improvement. This spring, we took that commitment one step further by training two sta members in CQL interviewing and interview training techniques. "During one week, Dori Leslie, Vice President of CHI Friendship, and I learned how to conduct meaningful interviews with the people we support to get accurate information about their quality of life," said Ryan Orcutt, Director of Education at CHI Friendship. "We then spent another week overseeing the full training with new participants, teaching them how to handle interviews and understand quality measures in a meaningful way." CONSTANTLY IMPROVING Because interviews with the people we serve are key to understanding quality of life— and improving our services—enhancing interview quality is vital to our mission. "In our training, one challenge we set out for interviewers was encouraging them not to interview people they know well," Orcutt said. "You avoid assumptions based on background information and can provide a truly objective, third-party perspective. This training also taught us how to be neutral decision makers during every interview we conduct. " To learn more about how we are dedicated to the lives of people we serve, visit chifriendship.com.
