Illness and injury don't follow a nine-to-five work day. When you have a medical need after hours, the Walk-in After Hours Clinic can serve you. "Patients don't need an appointment," says Niva Dhakhwa, DNP, FNP-C, primary care provider for the Walk-in After Hours Clinic. "We can treat most acute problems, including cough, cold, sore throat, sprains, fractures, and cuts, as well as some chronic issues, such as diabetes and hypertension." In addition to providing convenient times for patients—it's open currently from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday to Friday—a visit to the clinic can cost less than a visit to the Emergency Department. "It's billed as a clinic visit, rather than a more expensive Emergency Department visit," says Brenda Rick, FNP-C, primary care provider at the Walk-in After Hours Clinic. "We bill through insurance, but there is a discount for self-pay if someone is uninsured." Caring for Kids When Annabell Stump wasn't acting quite like herself one morning in September 2016, her mom knew the 2-year-old may be getting sick. "She had a fever later that night, so we took her to the Walk- in After Hours Clinic," remembers her mother, Corey. "We learned there that Annabell had an ear infection and enlarged tonsils. The staff was really great with her, and the nurse practitioner, Niva, was thorough—I didn't feel rushed at all. It was great not to have to wait until morning, because I knew Annabell was hurting." When Annabell was prescribed an antibiotic to get on the road to recovery, she didn't have to wait while her mother got the prescription filled. "It was 8 p.m., so the pharmacies were closed, but the clinic was able to fill the prescription for us," Corey says. "It was also significantly less money than I expected. The clinic is an affordable alternative to using the Emergency Department when you have an issue that needs to be addressed in a timely manner." On Your Time Wayne Mauch, a farmer from Wahpeton, had been dealing with knee pain for several years. When the pain caused him to start limping, he knew it was time to get some help at the Walk-in After Hours Clinic.
