HORMONES PLAY AN important role in the way your body works. When hormones aren't functioning correctly, problems such as diabetes, thyroid disease and delayed growth may develop. At the new Centura Health Physician Group - Endocrinology clinic in Longmont, Dr. Eskurza diagnoses hormone-related problems and guides patients through treatments and lifestyle changes to improve their health. Her practice is for all endocrinology issues, but her true passion is preventing, diagnosing and managing diabetes. "There was a clear need for more specialized endocrinology care in the communities we serve," says Larry Novissimo, Administrator of Centura Health Physician Group Longmont. "Dr. Eskurza will work very closely with our diabetes education coordinators, which will create a nice synergy between the clinic side and the hospital program." Dr. Eskurza is board certified in internal medicine and endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism. Prior to joining LUH, she worked as an endocrinologist at Berkshire Health Systems in Massachusetts. She earned her medical degree at University of the Basque Country in Bilbao, Spain, and completed an internal medicine residency at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Her fellowship in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism was completed at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and the Joslin Diabetes Center, both in Boston. New to the Longmont area, Dr. Eskurza enjoys running, biking, playing soccer and spending time with her family. › For more information about endocrinology, metabolism and diabetes care at LUH or to schedule an appointment with Dr. Eskurza, call 720-652-8680. SINCE OCT. 31, patients at LUH have had access to Epic EHR via the MyChart portal. Accessible anywhere with a secure internet connection, MyChart puts records in patients' hands and allows them to view test results, access discharge instructions, pay bills, schedule follow-up appointments and review follow-up appointment information. MyChart also allows two-way communication with providers, letting patients send messages and pictures and receive responses— all within the MyChart system. SAFE, SECURE, CONVENIENT The MyChart portal has security precautions built in, so patients can trust that their records remain confidential within Epic. As the EHR for the entire Centura system, Epic makes records available to any care provider in the system who needs access to patient information. "From a provider perspective, Epic makes it easier to document patient care, order tests and monitor a patient's progress," says John Kemp, MD, MS, Medical Director for Informatics at Centura Health. "Providers can instantly see what level of care patients have received and track and record treatments and results. Epic is by far the most state-of-the-art electronic health record available." › To sign up for the MyChart portal, talk to your healthcare provider.
