Conrmed and This past October, Lynn Hilde, a devoted Lutheran and one of the people supported by CHI Friendship, achieved his goal of becoming a conrmed member of Adams Mountain "Getting conrmed was something I always wanted to do. That day meant everything. I was happy to be there. I think I made my mom and dad proud. Howlucky can I be?" LYNN HILDE, CONFIRMED MEMBER OF ADAMS MOUNTAIN LUTHERAN CHURCH Lynn, 75, has lived in Adams, North Dakota his entire life. A longtime participant in worship at AdamsMountain, he has lit the candles for Sunday service many times—and knows exactly how many times he's performed this service. As of November 2016, it's 625. IT'S TRADITION! Lynn decided to get conrmed this year as part of his commitment to the church. In the Lutheran faith, conrmation is a pastoral and education ministry for those who are baptized. Those who get conrmed must rst study scripture and the sacraments of baptism and communion to better understand God's promises to them. Conrmation is usually done in a classroom. As a part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Adams Mountain is called to welcome all people in its congregations and ministries as full participants of the church. HITTING THE BOOKS Lynn met weekly with Reverend Jodi Myrvik for three months to review his conrmation lessons and ask questions. On October 30, 2016, after studying and learning more about the church and his faith, Lynn stood in front of his congregation to be conrmed. He promised to live faithfully, hear the word of God, share in the Lord's supper, proclaim the good news of God in Christ through word and deed, serve all people by following the example of Jesus, and strive for justice and peace. These promises are similar to those made by Lynn's family during his baptism. "Lynn has a heart of gold," said Christy Potts, Qualied Developmental Disabilities Professional at CHIFriendship. "Because Lynn is one of the people we serve, we are proud to support him in his ongoing faith journey. Lynn was proud that several of his friends and family members were in attendance the Sunday he was conrmed." At his conrmation, Lynn's cousin Janet was also by his side. Lynn received a pocket cross to carry with him to remind him of his promises. To learn more about how CHI Friendship supports the lives of people we serve, visitchifriendship.com.
