New Physician Available for House Calls Akash Taggarse, MD, a board-certified internal and geriatric medicine physician, has joined the Huron Regional Medical Center medical staff. Dr. Taggarse opened his practice at the Tschetter & Hohm Clinic May 1. He provides primary care to patients from adolescents through geriatrics across the region. When his patients are admitted to the hospital, Dr. Taggarse follows them through their stay and discharge. When necessary and appropriate, he also makes house calls for his home-bound patients. Born in Bangalore, India, Dr. Taggarse is a naturalized citizen of the United States. His undergraduate degree is in microbiology from the University of Maryland at College Park. Dr. Taggarse completed a doctorate of medicine at St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies. He completed his residency at Maryland General Hospital, in Baltimore, Md. Dr. Taggarse has had advanced training in the care of the elderly and completed a fellowship in gerontology at the University of Maryland Medical Center. Dr. Taggarse’s spouse, Padma, is currently working on completing her MBA at the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. They have three sons and a daughter. His family plans to join him in Huron once Padma completes her academic courses. Dr. Taggarse is now accepting new patients. Appointments can be made by calling (605) 352-8767. Excellence in Anesthesia Care Huron Regional Medical Center welcomes Jason Barnhard, a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA), to the surgical staff. Barnhard, who began his role April 25, performs anesthesia management for patients undergoing surgical, diagnostic or therapeutic procedures, in addition to airway management and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. CRNAs also administer epidural medication for pain management. Barnhard recently graduated from Mount Marty College in Yankton, S.D., with a master of science in nurse anesthesia. He completed clinical rotations at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Alegent Health Mercy Hospital and Sanford Health, where he performed anesthesia services for orthopaedic, ENT, pediatric, vascular, general, plastic, ophthalmic, thoracic and OB/GYN surgical cases. Originally from Mandan, N.D., Barnhard earned his bachelor of science in nursing with a minor in health administration from the University of Mary in Bismarck, N.D. Barnhard also worked for several years at St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck as a critical care registered nurse and charge nurse specializing in the care of medical, neurological and cardiovascular patients. Barnhard recently relocated to Huron with his girlfriend, Kayla Chaussee, new administrator for the Prairie View Care Center in Woonsocket, S.D. In his spare time, he enjoys hunting, fishing and golfing.
