WHETHER A STOMACH bug, earache or bronchitis, acute illnesses don't always follow normal business hours. In December 2016, Mercy Medical Clinic added weekday Quick Care hours from 7 a.m. to 7p.m. Monday through Friday to ensure same-day appointments and walk-ins could be cared for. Beginning May 13, 2017, Quick Care will be available seven days a week. Quick Care is the place to go for common acute problems, including: Allergies Cold and u symptoms Ear infections Fever Insect bites and poison ivy Sore throat Sprains, strains and non- complex fractures Stomach problems Urinary tract infections "It's very important for patients to have access to comprehensive medical care," says Missy Belloma, RHIA, Clinic Manager at Mercy Medical Clinic. "Our community hasn't had access to clinic services on weekends for many years, and we're excited to oer this service and create a healthier community by providing timely care." PART OF YOUR MEDICAL TEAM Designed to provide care when you can't see your primary care physician, the Quick Care clinic is just a part of your health picture. "Quick Care is not meant to take the place of your primary care provider," Missy says. "If you don't have a primary care provider, Mercy Clinic has four physicians and is adding another advanced practice clinician who can provide primary care for you and your family." Primary care providers are your biggest ally in good health. They can treat chronic conditions, provide preventive care to keep you from getting sick and manage any referrals you need to specialists. When you build a relationship with one provider who is primarily in charge of your healthcare, you ensure your provider knows your medical history and preferences. WHY ADVANCED PRACTICE? Whether you come in for a primary care or Quick Care appointment, Mercy Clinic provides advanced practice clinicians who help with your care. Originally staed with two advanced practice clinicians, Quick Care has added a third to ensure our patients can have same-day and walk-in appointments on weekends. Advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) are nurses with advanced degrees who are qualied to provide many kinds of primary care. An APRN can assess your health, take a health history, perform a physical exam, order tests and develop a treatment plan. The use of APRNs means you can see a qualied medical professional in a timely manner. To make an appointment with Mercy Clinic, call 641-856-8684. Quick Care Mercy Medical Clinic will open on weekends beginning in May toensure you and your family can get the care you need. for Better Care Expanded Coverage More than 130million Americans visit the emergency room every year. Less than 8 percent of emergency patients are considered nonurgent, or have medical conditions that should be seen within two to 24 hours.
