UMC HEALTH SYSTEM'S PEDIATRIC TRAUMA
UNIT HAS RECEIVED LEVEL II VERIFICATION.
FOR YEARS, UMC'S adult trauma center has been considered a
LevelI facility by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) — the
organization's highest honor. However, when the guidelines were
changed, and pediatrics was no longer lumped in with adult trauma,
UMC decided to get to work.
"We've always provided exceptional care for children in our
trauma center," said Wendi McNabb, B.S.N., R.N., director of
Trauma and Burn Services. "However, we recognize the importance
of having an organization as respected as the ACS externally review
us. is allows us to improve our care and gives our patients peace
of mind."
e ACS looked at factors such as patient outcomes, patient
satisfaction, employee knowledge and hospital layout to help ensure
that UMC's trauma center was providing high levels of care to
pediatric patients. At the end of numerous reviews, the Pediatric
Trauma Center was awarded Level II trauma designation.
"is isn't an easy achievement," McNabb said. "It took a lot of
work and a team effort by everyone to provide this kind of care for
our pediatric patients."
