For seven years running, University of Utah Health has ranked among the nation's top 10 academic medical centers in quality, safety, and accountability. This year, we were ranked number one for the second time in 10 years. Within our Division, we have had continued success with our research endeavors. Albert Park, MD, was recognized as a national leader in cytomegalovirus (CMV) research with an emphasis on routine screening of newborns for CMV. He also received NIH funding for a clinical trial of CMV. Jeremy Meier, MD, received an R03 grant from the AHRQ to study pediatric adentonsillectomy costs and quality. Jeremiah Alt, MD, PhD, received an R43 grant to study a glycosaminoglycan-based therapeutic for chronic rhinosinusitus and a KL2 for olfactory dysfunction stemming from rhinosinusitus. Additionally, he received a grant from Flight Attendant Medical Research Institute (FAMRI). Bryan McRae, MD, received an NSF-I Corp grant for medical device development from University of Utah Center for Medical Innovation (CMI). Many of our faculty have new national positions. Richard Orlandi, MD, was elected ARS President, Harlan Muntz, MD, was named ASPO President, Katherine Kendall, MD, was inducted into the Triological Society, and Marshall Smith was asked to be the Sylvan Stool Guest Lecturer for the Ultimate CO Midwinter 2017 Meeting. I am pleased to welcome several new faculty to our team. We recently welcomed Steven Kelly, MD, and Gretchen Oakley, MD. Dr. Kelly completed his residency here at the University of Utah and completed a fellowship at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Dr. Oakley also completed her residency at the University of Utah and completed a fellowship at St. Vincent's Hospital in Sydney, Australia. In the fall Richard Cannon, MD, and Eric Cerrati, MD, are joining us. Dr. Cannon completed his residency at the University of Utah and a fellowship at the University of Washington. Dr. Cerrati completed his residency at New York University and completed a fellowship at the University of Chicago. The Division is also expanding its pediatric practice with a new clinic, which opened last fall in Provo, and soon with our Layton practice opening in Fall 2017. This will position us in the northern and southern areas of the greater Salt Lake area. In this issue, we are excited to share our recent achievements and current progress across the field with you. As you read through our annual newsletter, I hope you connect with the many ways that otolaryngology physicians and researchers at the University of Utah are furthering the mission of providing an exceptional patient experience.
