"There was such a wealth of resources connecting entire families to exciting wellness opportunities, along with ideas for new lifestyle modifications they can implement in their own homes," says Emily Smith, MSN, RN, Clinical and Community Educator at CHI St. Anthony Hospital. "It was especially moving to see how engaged the children were in learning about preventive health checkups at the teddy bear booth. Their childhood toys taught them the importance of regularly scheduled doctors' visits from a unique perspective." Around 300 community residents came out to enjoy the 2017 Community Health Fair. Plans for the 2018 fair are currently underway. LEADERSHIP PENDLETON Each year, CHI St. Anthony Hospital partners with Leadership Pendleton, an educational program that encourages networking to better understand the city's needs. Participants learn what makes their town tick in order to continue its rich history for generations to come. From January through August, eight full-day programs take place across the city dealing with a broad spectrum of topics, including health care. For Healthcare & Social Services Day, which took place in April, CHI St. Anthony hosted presentations given by Umatilla County Public Health Department and Lifeways mental health and addiction services. The class then moved out into the community, visiting local healthcare organizations to give participants a full picture of how Pendleton provides for community health across the entire city, says Larry Blanc, Marketing Director, CHI St. Anthony Hospital. "As a former graduate of Leadership Pendleton, I know firsthand how this program builds future leaders and brings community members together around a shared vision," Larry says. "I am happy to continue being a part of it all through my role at the hospital." Interested in community events hosted by CHI St. Anthony Hospital? Visit sahpendleton.org/calendar/ to stay informed.
