Learn, Laugh, and Lean on Each Other Is your family about to grow? Get ready for baby by taking a five-week series of childbirth classes at CHI St. Anthony Hospital. Led by lactation consultant Elizabeth Michael, RNC-OB, IBCLC, classes meet at the hospital on Tuesdays from 6–8 p.m. and feature vital information you need to know before your little bundle arrives. Once baby is here, bring him or her to our Mom/Baby Group for support and to share stories and tips about being a new parent. The group meets at CHI St. Anthony Hospital every Friday from 9–11 a.m. To sign up for childbirth classes, call 541-966-2541. BABY'S BEST MEAL In March, Elizabeth Michael, RNC-OB, IBCLC, Lactation Consultant at CHI St. Anthony Hospital, began visiting communities throughout the region in a specially-outfitted, 24-foot van to provide breast- feeding education to new and expectant mothers. Patients meet with Elizabeth in an office inside the van for private appointments. The van visits Hermiston, Boardman, Heppner, and the Yellowhawk Tribal Health Center monthly. "People call the van 'a food truck for babies,'" Elizabeth says. "Several mothers contacted us about a need for lactation support closer to where they live, and we're happy to be able to provide it." READY TO RIDE? Another unique vehicle you might spot around Pendleton and the surrounding communities is our car seat trailer, which took to the roads this spring. Emily Smith, MSN, RN, Clinical and Community Educator at CHI St. Anthony Hospital, takes the trailer throughout the region to teach parents how to correctly install their child safety seats and ensure their children are traveling as safely as possible. "Even when parents read the instruction manual, they often still need help installing and positioning car seats," Emily says. "Thanks to the support of the St. Anthony Hospital Foundation, we are able to offer this service to families at convenient locations, close to where they live and work." Two new mobile services from CHI St. Anthony Hospital help babies throughout Eastern Oregon thrive and stay safe.
