Steering Patients through Some of Life’s Toughest Times The cancer program at Frankfort Regional Medical Center is working on pursuing a prestigious accreditation. A driving force behind the effort, our oncology nurse navigator, helps patients find their way through the cancer journey’s maze of appointments, information and emotions. Our cancer program has much to offer patients, including convenience. Services such as advanced diagnostic imaging, surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, infusion and management of cancer symptoms allow many patients to remain close to home for treatment rather than having to travel. Patients at Frankfort Regional have access to advanced therapies through clinical trials, as well as to the services of an academic medical center via our membership in the UK Markey Cancer Center Affiliate Network. The Tumor Board, a monthly gathering of cancer care specialists who discuss patient cases, exemplifies our focus on collaborative care. “We typically discuss five to eight cases that have been identified as problematic or complex,” says Sean Owens, MD, diagnostic and interventional radiologist, Chair of the Tumor Board and Chair of the Cancer Committee at Frankfort Regional. “The involvement of specialists allows us to plan individualized treatments for patients that give them the best opportunity for successful outcomes.” To ensure our cancer program meets and maintains the highest standards of care, we have applied for accreditation from the American
