IN ORDER TO MEET A REGIONAL NEED FOR HAND SURGERY COVERAGE, TEXAS TECH PHYSICIANS' ORTHOPAEDIC SURGERY DEPARTMENT RECENTLY ADDED A NEW MEMBER TO THE TEAM: BRENDAN MACKAY, M.D., ORTHOPAEDIC HAND SURGEON. HOME TO T WO major labor-intensive industries — oil and ag— Lubbock and other neighboring cities rely on hand surgeons to support the health of their workers. "We respond to a great number of hand-related injuries, relying on a two-person team to do so. With one hand surgeon entering retirement, we wanted to bring on the right team member for the job, and we found that in Dr. MacKay, an orthopaedic surgeon who excels in bone reconstruction, soft tissue reconstruction, nerve and vascular surgery, complex wound coverage, rotational flap skin grafting, and skin and dermal substitutes," said Mike Ragain, M.D., M.S.Ed., chief medical officer, UMC Health System. With experience working at a referral center and a desire to perform multidisciplinary procedures as well as more complex cases, Dr. MacKay was a natural fit. "Dr. Desirae McKee and I use a complete treatment algorithm, performing soft tissue surgery as well as bone reconstruction," Dr.MacKay said. "We are here to take care of the most complex and unusual cases to support referring providers and get patients back to their normal lives. Even if you are unsure about confirming a diagnosis, let us partner with you to find the answer." DR. MACK AY IS CURRENTLY ACCEPTING PATIENTS. TO REFER A PATIENT, CALL806.743.4600.
