HD CentraState Healthcare System's First Impressions Maternity Center recently received a $31,000 donation from the Michael Gerard Puharic Memorial Fund, Inc., a local, non-profit organization dedicated to giving comfort and easing the burden for parents carrying and caring for seriously ill newborns. The funds were used to renovate space into the "Michael's Feat Family Room." The renovation also included the addition of a phototherapy light for babies born with jaundice; incubators (called isolettes) for newborns that allow minimal light and noise exposure and help the newborn stay warm; and warmers, which help regulate the babies' body temperatures. A new antenatal testing room, equipped with three beds and fetal monitors, accommodates pregnant women during their outpatient stress tests. Michael's Feat is named in loving memory of organization founders Adam and Dana Puharic's son, Michael Gerard. Read Healthy Directions online at www.centrastate.com/publications.
