COMING HOME TO SERVE HIS COMMUNIT Y THE SON OF a dentist and a physical therapist, Dr.Simpson was always surrounded by the language and lifestyle of medical professions. is background made his decision to pursue a career in healthcare a naturalone. Having frequented his orthopaedic surgeon's office in high school, the former baseball, football and soccer player was drawn to the idea of practicing orthopaedicshimself. Dr.Simpson was accepted to medical school during his senior year of high school as part of the Undergraduate to Medical School Initiative and later resolutely chose orthopaedic surgery as his specialty. "I knew I needed to be in a high- energy field where I was constantly doing something physical," Dr.Simpson said. "Orthopaedics and joint replacement were perfect for me. I get to focus on finding solutions for athletes and individuals who want to be active for as long as possible." Dr. Simpson's fellowship training is an additional benefit to the community. He performs 400 to 500 joint replacements per year, and this depth of experience helps reduce the medical complications associated with surgery. He enjoys managing complex joint issues and is fascinated by improvements in materials and new developments in orthopaedics, including improving the longevity of prostheses. Dr. Simpson wants to bring the level of care found in big cities to his hometown of Lubbock, and is excited to improve the quality of life of those who previously had few options. Dr.Simpson earned his medical degree at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine.
