Denim: Less Water, More Tech Conservation is a driving factor in the latest denim innovations as the market for greener jeans continues to attract attention. Denim Experts has this top of mind with the launch of a sustainable men's denim collection for Spring/Summer 2019 collection that uses less water and chemicals than conventional denim production. For instance, the company has developed technologies that eliminate the use of the long dry and wet process. "We do not rely on chemicals, but on environmentally friendly processes, thus significantly reducing water consumption. In addition, we recycle the used water and re-purify it for in-house use," said Mostafiz Uddin, Denim Expert managing director and company CEO, based in Bangladesh, who outlines several other advancements in the new line. For example, the labor-intensive dry work processes such as scratching, moustache and used looks are done by state-of-art efficient laser technology. All chemicals used in the process are Green Screen certified and therefore classified as environmentally friendly. For the fashionable effects, such as wrinkling, bleached surfaces or used- look, Denim Experts does without stones, resins and PP films as well as bleach. Uddin explains that the jeans are washed in very low quantities of alkali and use an environmentally friendly liquor ratio of 1: 3. "By working with energy-efficient machines and modern technologies requiring less energy, we can also guarantee safer and better working conditions for the employees," he stated. According to Denim Experts approximately 8,000 liters of water is used per pair of jeans during conventional production.
