In 2017, three of the Top 10 made purchases, led by VF Corp.'s $820 million acquisition of family-owned, workwear company Williamson- Dickie. Rivals Gildan and Hanesbrands made bolt-on deals with their respective plays for American Apparel and Alternative Apparel. Only one company on our list, Delta Apparel, divested an apparel business last year. And only one, Billabong, was preparing to be acquired via its now completed merger with Quiksilver parent, Boardriders Inc., to create a firm with a portfolio of action sport/ lifestyle apparel brands. Sales figures reported in currency other than U.S. dollars were converted at average rate for the particular currency in 2017. U.S. sales are used wherever possible.
