MOHAWK VALLEY HEALTH SYSTEM (MVHS) AND SUNY UPSTATE CANCER CENTER ENTER INTO PARTNERSHIP Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS) has entered into a partnership with SUNY Upstate Cancer Center to provide radiation oncology services to our community. This partnership took effect on Dec. 1, 2018, when the previous partner - ship with 21st Century Oncology ended. As of Nov. 30, 2018, Radiation Oncologist Brij Sood, MD, is no longer affiliated with MVHS's Cancer Center. Gilbert Lawrence, MD, transi - tioned into providing care as part of SUNY Upstate and continues his care of the MVHS Cancer Center. Karna Sura, MD, from SUNY Upstate, has joined Dr. Lawrence in providing care at the MVHS Cancer Center and patients will continue to be treated by the same dedicated team of nurses and radiation therapists. In addition to caring for patients at MVHS, Drs. Lawrence and Sura, as part of their university appointments, will engage in teaching medical students and residents at MVHS as well as SUNY Upstate. The MVHS Cancer Center provides a multidis - ciplinary approach to cancer care, offering a full range of radiation services, including: intensity modulated radiation therapy, image guided radia - tion therapy, stereotactic body radiation therapy and stereotactic radio surgery. In addition, our deep inspiration breath hold technology permits us to treat breast cancer while reducing the radiation dose to the heart. All treatments are provided in a warm, caring environment with personalized care for patients and their families. The MVHS Cancer Center also uses the Varian Edge Radiosurgery System, allowing the Cancer Center's team to deliver radiation treatment to patients with even greater precision and minimal radiation to the surrounding tissues. Its knife-like beam targets tumors of the brain, spine, lung and other areas that are typically difficult to treat surgically. The SUNY Upstate Cancer Center is a com - prehensive resource for cancer care and will supplement the services currently offered at the MVHS Cancer Center as they provide advanced outpatient treatments, additional access to clini - cal research studies and support services. n 2 2 2 2❱❱❱❱❱ M E D I C A l B R I E F S
