Family Travel
Whether you're headed to the shore or somewhere more exotic, traveling with a family presents a unique set of challenges, including the task of keeping everyone well.
Depending on the destination, I recommend planning several months or weeks ahead, says Anthony D. Ambrosio, MD, Family
Medicine Practitioner with Health Quest Medical Practice in Fishkill. Research your destination. If traveling abroad, schedule all necessary vaccinations well ahead of time and make sure you have sufficient documentation and medications on hand before you go.
THINK OF THE KIDS
Dr. D'Ambrosio recommends putting together a rst aid kit with child-friendly medications, including ibuprofen and acetaminophen. The kit should also contain triple-antibiotic ointment, adhesive bandages, anti-diarrhea medication, antihistamines and sunblock.
Preserving a childs at-home routine is another health prescription for family trips.
On vacation, don't neglect nap time and try to keep kids on a regular schedule, Dr. D'Ambrosio says. Keep your children hydrated and have at-home staples, such as sippy cups, toys and
books, on-hand.
