From the CEO DEAR FRIENDS, It's an exciting time to be a part of the Rhea Medical Center family. Through recent national recognition, the general public is learning what our providers and patients have long known: The quality of care at RMC is rated as one of the best available among its peers around the country. Our Top 100 Critical Access Hospital designation is a significant endorsement for the extraordinary level of patient-centered services delivered routinely by RMC physicians and staff. The acknowledgment should reassure you and your loved ones that when you need help with an illness or injury, you need not look further than your own community for expert diagnosis and treatment. See page 3 for further details about the measurements used to rate RMC among the best and how they translate to the best possible patient experience. In this issue of Better Living, we are featuring an example of a gratifying outcome after our patient John Hanson was diagnosed and treated for a severe infection. This was an especially complex case for one of our internal medicine specialists, Hak Seo, MD. Please flip to pages 4 and 5 to read about the happy ending to this patient's story. We want to wish you a happy, healthy summer. Whether you enjoy the season by traveling or staying close to home, we want you to know that you can count on RMC to be standing by and ready if you need medical help. We are truly grateful to be able to meet all your healthcare needs. SINCERELY, Ken Croom Jr. Chief Executive Officer Rhea Medical Center Find the Sun! "WE HAVE A wonderful group of volunteers with caring attitudes, and are always looking for more," says Peri Meadows, Human Resources Director at RMC. "Each volunteer is an individual with a niche. We try to match our volunteers' skills and interests with available tasks." Volunteering can be rewarding on many levels within each person. At RMC, they receive tangible benefits, too. "There are several perks to volunteering at RMC, including a free meal with each shift and discounted services," Meadows says. "They are just like regular staff that way." Helping Neighbors "Giving back is an integral part of the RMC culture, and we are always looking for meaningful ways to show our support to the community we serve," says Linda Blevins, RN. "RMC provides first aid at events throughout the year, such as Rhea County Farm/City Day and at several Strawberry Festival events." RMC recently supported Healthy Kids Day and the first annual Chickamauga Big Bass Tournament "Fish for Health." Catch a glimpse of RMC volunteers in action on Thursday, July 18, at the Rhea County community back-to-school event. JOIN THE RHEA MEDICAL FAMILY AS A VOLUNTEER.
