The rear façade is quite unexpectedly where all the modernist features have come to play … at right angles. The employment of geometric shapes is in full swing as rectangular windows of varying dimensions square off. The eye can't help but trace the gabled roof pitch up and back down again, across the skyline. Whereas the white interior walls lay low, inconspicuous, the rear exterior politely requests due admiration. Bump outs add further geometric complexity and asymmetry (modernist stylings). They could all but disappear into the charcoal gray, monochromatic backdrop of the home, were it not for the high-contrast, cedar planking on the side walls. It rather demands recognition. An array of materials to include plenty of glass, metal, knotty cedar, shiplap siding, and painted board and batten come together boldly and harmoniously. A nod to Pat's tradition of furniture-crafting prevails in the knotty cedar on display in both interior and exterior. High contrast tones were again sought out when selecting stone for the courtyard and in the seating and pool hardscapes. The deliberate arrangement of square angles is evident from every vantage point, right down the square pool umbrellas. The pool was built by The Boston Pool Company.
