Spring & Summer Shopping Expectations C onsumers are ready to buy new shoes this spring and summer, and they anticipate spending the same amount as usual, according to our recent survey of 312 "active" consumers, aged 18-60. Of those we surveyed, nearly 90% anticipate buying new footwear for themselves this spring and summer. e majority (64%) expect to buy 1-2 pairs. Sandals and running shoes are the two types of footwear consumers say they are most likely to buy this season, followed closely by casual/comfort shoes and walking shoes. While there is a lot of buzz about price pressure and rising prices, the overwhelming majority of respondents (72%) say they expect to spend "the same as usual" on their footwear this season compared to similar purchases in the past. However, if prices rise, 57% say they will "buy less shoes." When it comes to supply chain issues being felt by the consumer, less than 50% tell us they have been personally impacted by inventory issues when looking for footwear to buy. In instances when consumers were unable to find their "first" footwear choice, 52% say their next step was to "buy a similar alternative style." On the sustainability side, we asked about "take back" programs, where a brand accepts shoes back at their "end of life" to recycle them.
