CovEr fEAturE "What is really amazing about Samara," he says, "is her ability to balance her boundless creativity with the rigid urban regulatory environment the city of Boston presents, while never venturing from the practical lifestyle needs tenants require." Among other key company personnel is Dave Starr, Project Manager for HCMC, who is in charge of pricing, scheduling and job coordination. "Dave brings a long career in residential, high-end millwork to our company, which ideally complements our business in the Back Bay — where we do some stratospherically high-end renovations of brownstones — as well as in the Beacon Hill area," Weinig explains. Starr was Project Manager on the aforementioned Boylston Street job and has worked at HCMC for 13 years. "And hopefully, he will be here another 13 years," Weinig says. A nother notewor thy project is The Mauralago Building at 146 Front Street, a two-story, mixed-use commercial building on the waterfront of Scituate Harbor in Scituate. A once-popular landmark and retail hub for 150 years, the building had been abandoned, condemned and slated for demolition prior to the launch of the extensive rehabilitation campaign. The team at HCMC succeeded in attaining the project's goal, which was to recapture the property's former glory, prosperity and community symbolism by preserving the historic facade on Front Street and enabling the gut renovation of more than 27,000 square feet of retail, restaurant and office space while complying with building, life safety, energy and accessibility codes. The result? Weinig, Starr and Tilkin provided the comprehensive design-build services to make it happen. The Welch Company (before) 14 | GrEAtEr boSton Builder+architect Boston.BuilDerarChiteCt.Com
