TRENDINSIGHT Economic and environmental issues are increasingly impacting consumer shopping behavior as winter 2023 unfolds. Respondents in our latest survey report being more aware of price hikes and climate change, topics that garnered significant attention in 2022. But survey results also show that shoppers are now taking note of emerging concerns about the use of PFAS chemicals in the manufacture of apparel and footwear. For example, 61 percent of consumers polled are "very aware" of higher prices, while 58 percent recorded heightened consideration of climate change – with 41 percent saying that climate change is "somewhat important" when purchasing shoes and clothing. With regard to PFAS, just under half of all survey participants not only recognize the term for forever chemicals, but are cognizant of PFAS regulations. According to respondents, brands should bear the brunt for all of these issues. In 2023, brands that provide clear communication and responsible transparency about product and social policies are likely to gain consumer support. n NEW YEAR SHOPPING CONSIDERATIONS What best describes your current everyday style?
