TRENDINSIGHT If you shop in brick-and-mortar stores, does the store's return policy impact your decision to purchase footwear from that store? BRICK-AND-MORTAR SELECTED COMMENTS... YES NO 36% 64% 42 • Footwear Insight ~ May/June 2023 footwearinsight.com What are your expectations for the return policy at brick-and-mortar stores? Return unworn with receipt for 30 days or replacement for defective for 30 days. Male 47 30 days return policy. Male 34 I would expect to have enough time to wear the shoes once and decide if they are comfortable enough to keep. I have never returned shoes to a brick-and- mortar store because I try them on when possible. Female 35 90 days no sweat returns. Male 33 Expect them to take a shoe back if defective or not comfortable as long as minimal wear. Female 39 To take shoes back within 30 days if I'm dissatisfied with shoe. Male 42 Simple return with receipt or exchange for same price paid with no receipt. Female 49 I expect to be able to wear them for two to three full days while still being able to return them. Male 41 Bring back if they are not comfortable. Female 30 If the shoe is faulty or sized wrong then it should be able to returned or exchanged. Male 49 Money back or exchange, no questions asked. Male 54 I expect that if the shoe doesn't fit right, if it's damaged, or if I simply change my mind about the shoe purchase (all within a reasonable amount of time) that the brick- and-mortar store should be willing to allow the shoe return. Female 37 Flaw in shoe or if I notice it's bad for my feet, within 1-2 weeks of wearing in 'real life'. Female 52 I expect to be able to return them if they haven't been worn outside. Female 40 To be able to return if I'm unhappy with my purchase within 30 days. Female 30 REI has the best because I can really wear the shoe and then return it. Male 45 Return if it doesn't feel right as long as it's not damaged. Male 37 My expectations for the return policy is if within the first few times of me wearing a shoe it starts to tear, they would either replace the shoe or allow me to exchange the shoe for another shoe, regardless of brand, of equal value. Female 43 Minimum of 45 days and guarantee to replace or refund for defects. Male 41 3 days of wear or 30 days unworn. Male 34 At least 30 days to find out if the shoe fits properly. Male 41 60 days. If you don't love it, return it. Female 39 As long as shoe isn't damaged, it should be able to be returned. Sometimes shoes just don't fit right once worn. Male 48 60 days - no receipts - home pick up - no fees. Male 49 I expect if the shoe doesn't fit or has a problem, the store will refund or exchange the product within 60 days of purchasing. Female 41 Easy and hassle free. Allow returns on all shoes regardless of discounts. Female 25 If the shoe fails to perform or does not hold up for a relatively decent amount of time, they should take the shoes back and either offer an even exchange or a credit for the original amount that I paid for the product. Male 34 If a shoe has not been worn more than once and purchase was within 30 days of return, the store should issue a full refund or store credit. Male 52 At least in-store credit for returns. Male 33 I would expect the return policy to be the same as purchasing online or in-store; it should be a minimum of 60 days since I would not know the comfort of the shoes until I wear them for a while. Female 25 If buying in-store, no return should be needed. Male 37 If I don't like the shoes I can return it! Female 32 If you sell a product, follow through with the warranty/return policy. I have found that most brick-and-mortar stores' policies are whatever brand they are selling policies are. Male 45 If I have my receipt, I would expect to be able to return within 30 days, if need be. Female 50 No questions asked. Female 27. At least a two month return policy! Female 42 I don't expect brick-and-mortar stores to accept shoes back. An individual can try them on in the store, walk around in them, etc. before purchase. Male 44 Take them back as long as they're in good condition, or clear upfront guidelines on return policy. Male 30 None. If I go to a brick and mortar store I should feel 100% about the footwear before purchasing and should not need a return. Male 30 Generally, something that is advantageous. If I'm able to wear and decide that I don't like them (within reason!), that would be best. Male 31 30 day minimum, 60 day preferred. Female 34 I can wear them for a run and return them if they aren't comfortable. Female 32 Allow a few weeks of testing as shoes need to break in before you really know if they're going to work. Male 38 at they stand behind the products they sell in their store by accepting returns on the items not used and defective items. Male 42
