Polartec Platforms Get a Bio-Based Boost. IN THE MARKET / ECO UPDATE textileinsight.com Fall 2023 ~ Textile Insight • 11 N ew Polartec Power Shield and Power Stretch Pro product of- ferings will feature Biolon nylon inputs in both the membrane and fabric components this fall season, elevating the overall plant-derived content per style while reducing the carbon footprint. Biolon is a renewable, non-GMO plant- based nylon with a 50 percent lower carbon footprint than virgin Nylon 6,6, and features nylon properties closer to Nylon 6,6 than many recycled nylon alternatives currently on the market, according to Polartec. e product made its debut last year with the launch of Polartec's more sustainable Polartec Power Stretch Weather Protection technology, but was not branded "Biolon" at that time. e newest developments continue to feature Biolon in the membrane but now also in the fabrics of Polartec Power Shield and Power Stretch Pro. Karen Beattie, Polartec's global director of product marketing, explains, "e use of plant-based nylon in the yarns going into the fabrics is something new and exciting, as it increases the bio-based content in our materials, which further reduces reliance on fossil fuels and lowers our carbon footprint." Polartec Power Shield with Biolon has a water resistance rating of 20K mm (ISO 811) and a breathability rating of 20K g/m2/24 hours (JIS L1099, B1). Polartec Power Stretch Pro has a dual surface fabric comprising a highly durable nylon exterior and a so, comfortable polyester interior that is durable, comfortable, breathable and features 4-way stretch performance. n Introducing Biolon
