President’s Message President’s Message… CentraState is committed to providing our community with the tools to prevent illness and maintain wellness. We’re doing that by growing our network of primary care physicians and offering numerous resources and programs designed to help keep you healthy. What comes to mind when you think of “primary care”? If it’s simply an annual checkup, you’re missing an essential element in maintaining your health and wellness. Primary care physicians—family medicine and internal medicine doctors, pediatricians, and ob/gyns—are at the front line in preventing disease, catching disease early when it’s most treatable, and helping people with chronic diseases avoid complications. In this issue of , you can read a story about one local family’s long-term relationship with their primary care doctors that spans more than 20 years and four generations. In addition to having a doctor who is a partner in your health, you need to be an active participant as well. That includes making the right choices when it comes to your lifestyle. Also featured in this issue is a story about one young man’s successful weight loss achieved with the help of a registered dietitian at our Star and Barry Tobias Health Awareness Center. By learning about healthy food choices, portion size, and other positive eating behaviors, he stopped the cycle of unhealthy eating he developed as a child. At CentraState, you can find the resources to achieve your health and wellness goals and truly be accountable for your lifestyle choices. In addition to your primary care doctor, we want you to consider us as your partner in health and wellness. Yours in Good Health, Jen and Jay Jacobs Community Voices… To our Friends and Supporters at CentraState: We want to thank everyone at the Star and Barry Tobias Ambulatory Campus and all the wonderful people we’ve met at CentraState over the past few months for supporting us as we prepared for the “Biggest Loser” finale. When you leave the Biggest Loser Ranch, our training facility on the show, and come home to train for the finale, it’s scary because you’re leaving your entire support system behind. The key to at-home success is to replicate that support at home. And that’s exactly what we did with friends and family and with CentraState’s Ambulatory Campus. This facility has everything the Ranch had and more—great equipment, great environment, great energy, and great trainers and physical therapists. And it’s medically supervised! You can just feel that people are getting better here. They’re not just exercising—they’re receiving the inspiration and tools they need to change their lives. We’ve trained at a lot of facilities, and there aren’t many places like this in the country. You not only have an amazing fitness facility, you also have a diabetes center, a sleep center, a health awareness center, and a really forward-thinking approach to kids’ health and wellness education. You’ve truly laid the foundation for the healthcare of the future—one that shows people how to live life well! This is why we’re so excited to be working with CentraState to develop and conduct programs that will bring what we’ve learned from our trainers Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels and everyone at the Ranch back here to you. Plus, a whole lot of inspiration and motivation! Getting to be on the “Biggest Loser” is like having a winning lottery ticket, but you don’t need to win the lottery to come here. Everything you need to get fit and healthy is right here at your fingertips. Sincerely, John T.
