BRIEFS CentraState CENTRASTATE PRESIDENT/CEO WINS ACHIEVEMENT AWARD Modern Healthcare magazine and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society have awarded the CEO IT Achievement Award to John T. Gribbin, president and CEO of CentraState Healthcare System. This award recognizes healthcare CEOs who have demonstrated leadership and commitment in using information technology to advance their organizations' strategic goals. CEOs must also achieve measurable results through leadership and commitment to IT in their organization, and share their healthcare organization's IT experiences to benefi t peers and other members of the healthcare industry. TOTAL JOINT PROGRAM EARNS JOINT COMMISSION ACCREDITATION CentraState Medical Center has earned The Joint Commission's Two-Year Accreditation for its Total Joint Program by demonstrating compliance with The Commission's national standards for health care quality and safety in disease-specifi c care. CentraState's Total Joint Program provides comprehensive, integrated care including a team of board-certifi ed orthopedic surgeons, specially trained orthopedic nurses, a total joint coordinator, patient care technicians, physical and occupational therapists, dietitians, and other care providers across the continuum. CENTRASTATE'S CANCER PROGRAM EARNS REACCREDITATION The Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons has granted three-year reaccreditation with commendation through 2014 to the Cancer Program at CentraState. Reaccreditation was awarded following an on-site evaluation by a physician surveyor during which CentraState demonstrated a commendation level of compliance with one or more standards that represent the full scope of the cancer program, including cancer committee leadership, cancer data management, clinical services, research, community outreach, and quality improvement. Mary "Betty" Cortese, RN, Cardiac Services, recently became the first nurse in CentraState history to achieve the distinction of Mentor, Level IV in CentraState's Nursing Excellence Program. The Nursing Excellence Program is a CentraState clinical ladder for nurses. The NEP has four levels and certain criteria must be met to obtain each level. The 2011 Family Medicine Residency Program at CentraState recently graduated seven physicians: (standing L to R) Kevin Berg, MD, Geriatric Fellowship; Wen-Shi Chang, MD, recipient of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine's Teaching Award and Patient Service Award; Omar Nabulsi, MD, co-chief resident; Widalys Adames, MD, recipient of the Patient Service Award; Farzad Jamshidian, MD, co-chief resident; Vanessa Tong, MD, Geriatric Fellowship; (seated L to R) Jessica Chow, DO, recipient of the Future of Family Medicine Award; and Sabeen Pervaiz, MD. Computerized physician order entry is one of the latest healthcare technologies being used at CentraState, as demonstrated by Chief of Staff John DeTullio, MD, critical care specialist, and Nancy Poznanski, RN at a nursing station in the Critical Care Unit. Hospitals & Health Networks, the journal of the American Hospital Association, has recognized CentraState Medical Center as one of the nation's "Most Wired" healthcare organizations for the second year in a row, according to the results of the magazine's annual survey. CentraState is one of only five healthcare systems in New Jersey and one of only 154 healthcare organizations in the country to be named "Most Wired." The prestigious designation recognizes healthcare organizations that have successfully adopted information technology in four critical areas: infrastructure, business and administrative management, clinical quality, and safety and care continuum.
