Community Voices… As we get older, we want a health care system that will be our partner in helping us to age in good health while supporting our efforts to remain independent and engaged in life. The services of our Star and Barry Tobias Ambulatory Campus are based on this theme of LIVE LIFE WELL SM . For many years, we have offered a community-based Health Awareness Center that provided educational programs to children, adolescents and adults, as well as an expansive menu of health screenings. But now, it serves as the engine to manage the LIVE LIFE WELL SM culture we are developing. It is the hub of programs helping our community better manage their own health. We offer the community a medically supervised Fitness & Wellness Center with a full range of programs and state-of-the-art equipment. But unlike other fitness centers, our center is also geared toward helping people with chronic and debilitating conditions. We have disease-specific fitness programs to serve people afflicted with multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, heart disease and cancer. Our OceanFirst outpatient rehabilitation center offers a huge array of rehabilitation services, including traditional physical, speech and occupational therapy, and just like our fitness center, it also offers disease-specific therapy for people who live with chronic neurological disorders, cancer, as well as more acute conditions such as concussions. In this issue of Healthy Directions, we tell the stories of Mark Herman and Lydia Arana (page 8), two people with Parkinson's disease who have improved their quality of life thanks to our rehabilitation center. Rather than having their movement and speech shut down because of their condition, Mark and Lydia are now performing beyond expectations thanks to their hard work and the efforts of our Parkinson's rehabilitation staff. It's just one more example of how CentraState is striving to help everyone LIVE LIFE WELL SM . Editor–CentraState Brian Johnson Writers Stephanie Duncan Chris N. Sharon Trotta, admissions coordinator, immediately alleviated my concerns and assured me there would be a place for my mom. JoAnna Minetti, RN, charge nurse, showed us around and made us feel welcome. Bobbi Jo Curty, social worker, explained how the entire process worked. Arlene Holloway, unit secretary, was very helpful when my mom had concerns about her food. She came right to the room and made my mom feel like a queen. The entire cafeteria staff was great and had a real can-do attitude. Also, the nursing and physical therapy staffs were amazing.
