President's Message… ProCure Treatment Centers, in collaboration with Princeton Radiation Oncology and CentraState, will soon open the ProCure Proton Therapy Center, the only proton therapy center for cancer treatment in the New Jersey and New York metro region. Proton therapy is a form of radiation treatment that precisely targets the affected area of the body, without many of the side effects patients often experience with other forms of radiation. It is an important treatment option for many patients with cancer, including those with tumors of the prostate, brain, head and neck, central nervous system, lung, and gastrointestinal system, as well as many pediatric tumors. Physicians at the proton center include board-certified radiation oncologists on staff at CentraState who are renowned in their fields—Brian Chon, MD, medical director of the center; Edward Soffen, MD; and Henry Tsai, MD. Eugen Hug, MD, one of the foremost experts in proton therapy and former chair of the Paul Sherrer Institute in Switzerland, will also be joining the clinical team. When the ProCure Proton Therapy Center opens its doors to the community and the region, we're confident that with this combination of technology and talent that the 1,200 to 1,500 patients treated at the center each year will find new hope in the management of their cancer. Proton therapy is one of a number of different cancer treatment options offered by CentraState. CentraState is committed to offering the full range of cancer care from prevention and diagnosis to treatment and wellness, all right in the area for a more coordinated, convenient, and personalized care experience. For more information about CentraState's cancer services and an in-depth look at the new ProCure Proton Therapy Center, see this issue's special "Cancer Care" section starting on page 5. Yours in Good Health, Community Voices… Dear Mr. Gribbin, I am writing to let you know what a wonderful experience I had at The Central Jersey Wound Treatment Center at CentraState. I was being treated for a severe case of venous stasis for nine months, and was not getting better—in fact, I was getting worse. I feared I might lose my leg. I finally decided to try the Wound Treatment Center, and within six months, I was completely healed. I also had three serious infections that were not detected by my former physician. Dr. Henry J. Miller, Diane, Tara, Tracy, Gloria, Hope, and other staff members graciously treated me like a queen. They were all professional, kind, and patient. They answered all of my questions and explained every procedure. From the very first visit, I knew that I had come to the right place for treatment. I could see progress after the first week, and I started to feel better. Henry Miller, DPM The Wound Treatment Center is a wonderful facility, and I would recommend it to anyone needing that type of care. I wish I had come there sooner. May I express my praise, gratitude, and thanks to these dedicated people who gave me my life back. Once again, thank you. Very truly yours, Ruth Deptula John T.
